NEW ZEALAND North Island
New Zealand is where our nomadic journey began and remains one of the places closest to our hearts. After converting an empty van into our home on wheels, we spent 12 months travelling around the country, including roughly five months exploring the North Island. We travelled from Cape Reinga and the Coromandel Peninsula to Rotorua and Taupō, followed the remote coastline around East Cape, explored Hawke’s Bay and drove both the Forgotten World Highway and the Wairarapa coast to Castlepoint Lighthouse. There are probably few corners of the North Island we didn’t reach. Although many visitors focus more on the South Island, travelling slowly allowed us to discover just how varied the North Island is and fall in love with it in its own right.
