Hello & Welcome
Wanderingcapes is a blog about slow travel experiences, everyday moments and the stories that unfold when travel becomes part of daily life. We’re Nora and Trevor, a married couple from different corners of the world, sharing moments from traveling and living in different places over time.
Our Story
During another long, dark and rainy winter in northern Germany, it became clear that we needed a change sooner rather than later. We left our jobs, sold most of our belongings and booked a one-way ticket to New Zealand. That decision over time reshaped how we think about work, travel and what we actually want from life. It also made it easier to trust our own choices, even when they don’t follow a conventional path.
Since then, we’ve lived between Germany, California and Portugal and are still figuring out where “home” is for us. For now, it’s the feeling we create rather than a fixed place.
Hi there! We’re Nora and Trevor, the duo behind Wanderingcapes.
We come from different parts of the world — Nora from Germany, Trevor from California, where we met in 2013 while Nora was living there as an au pair. What started with weekend trips and short getaways exploring the US West Coast and beyond slowly turned into a way of life, shaping how we spend our time together and how we see the world.
Life eventually took us to Germany, where we settled in Hamburg, got married, started new jobs and traveled across Europe whenever we could. Even then, staying in one place long-term didn’t feel quite right for us. There was a growing desire for a bigger change and a curiosity about what else was out there.
"Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.
Life is not meant to be lived in just one place."
- DALAI LAMA
Our Philosophy
Over time, our approach to travel has shifted toward slowing things down and spending more time in each place we stay. We enjoy immersing ourselves in our surroundings and getting a sense of daily life beyond first impressions. For us, that often means paying attention to local rhythms, everyday moments and the small details that shape how a place feels.
Health and fitness are important parts of our lives, especially while traveling. We try to maintain a balanced routine, whether that’s hunting down local farmers markets for fresh produce or spending as much time outdoors as possible.
We aim to travel with fewer things without giving up comfort or ease. We’re not only interested in seeing new places, but in discovering different ways of living. Each destination teaches us something about simplicity, adaptability and what we actually need day to day. Over time, this way of traveling has lightened not just our luggage, but also our expectations, allowing experiences to feel more natural and unforced.
Don't wait for opportunity. Create it!
The Blog
Wanderingcapes started during our time traveling through New Zealand as a way to document a chapter of our lives that felt both new and formative. What began as a personal record slowly grew into a place to capture experiences as they unfold, including the highlights as well as the quieter, less polished moments in between.
Today, this blog is where we share travel stories, longer stays in different places, road trips and reflections on living between destinations. Some posts are practical, others more observational, but all are rooted in our own experiences rather than idealized itineraries or trends.
You’ll find writing about everyday life on the road, changing routines, staying active while traveling, itineraries and small details that shape what it’s actually like to be somewhere. This space is as much an archive for ourselves as it is something to share.
A space for thoughtful travel stories, everyday moments and time spent between destinations. Hope you enjoy!
